CertiTrust® – Building Trust, Retaining Customers, Detecting Counterfeits
Why Use CertiTrust®?
Authenticity verification, product information, and traceability – all in one innovative QR code
How Does CertiTrust® Work?
-
-
Security QR Code
Each product is assigned a unique CertiTrust QR code printed on its label. It incorporates an integrated security pattern that prevents copying or duplication. This provides the first layer of defense against counterfeiting directly on the product.
-
Scanning
End customers, distributors, or employees simply scan the QR code with a smartphone. No special app is required — the standard camera is entirely sufficient.
-
Verification & Product Information
Upon scanning, the code is matched in real-time against the secure database. The user immediately receives proof of authenticity along with product details such as the article number, user manuals, accessories, reorder options, product recommendations, related services, and more.
-
Data Flow
Every scan generates valuable data that is instantly available to the manufacturer:
- Scan location and time: Market transparency
- Usage patterns & regional activity: Customer insights and grey market detection
- Supply chain information down to the serial or batch level
-

Why is CertiTrust® Worth It?
- Cost Reduction: Fewer losses due to counterfeits and gray market products. Since original products are identifiable in real time, manufacturers can clearly reject unwarranted complaints or recourse claims.
- Increased Revenue: Higher customer trust and additional sales opportunities through cross-selling and reorders. Via the scan, spare parts, accessories, or new products can be offered directly without the end customer having to search extensively. Installation and operating instructions can also be stored, which saves time and increases customer satisfaction.
- Efficiency: Automated supply chain processes and real-time data for transparent operations. Manufacturers see where and how often a scan occurs and can allocate marketing budgets strategically. At the same time, requirements such as the upcoming Digital Product Passport can be met with CertiTrust® without additional systems.
With CertiTrust®, producers not only save costs but also actively increase their revenue and optimize internal processes. Thus, every product becomes a secure, transparent, and digitally networked value carrier.

Secure Industry Solutions with CertiTrust®

Automotive
In the automotive sector, spare parts, accessories, and OEM products are often the target of counterfeiting. With CertiTrust, manufacturers reliably secure their products, build trust with workshops and end customers, and simultaneously ensure complete traceability throughout the supply chain.

Medical Technology
In medical technology, products are particularly safety-critical. With CertiTrust, manufacturers receive a reliable proof of authenticity, which protects patients while also fulfilling legal requirements. Furthermore, it enables seamless documentation from production to application.

Chemicals
The chemical industry is significantly affected by the problem of gray markets and product counterfeiting. CertiTrust helps to uniquely identify products, make distribution channels transparent, and quickly detect unauthorized markets. This effectively strengthens market protection.

Manufacturers of Everyday to Luxury Goods
Whether fashion, watches, or essential consumer goods, CertiTrust® allows manufacturers to protect their brands while directly engaging with end customers. The QR code can be used to offer digital services, product recommendations, and reordering options, thereby generating additional revenue and increasing customer loyalty.

Pharmaceutical Industry
The pharmaceutical industry is particularly susceptible to counterfeiting and gray market activities, which not only diminish revenue but also pose a health risk to patients. With CertiTrust, medications can be uniquely authenticated, while traceability and regulatory requirements are met.

Food Industry
In the food sector, transparency and trust are crucial. CertiTrust® allows consumers to retrieve information on origin, ingredients, or production conditions with a simple scan. Manufacturers thus secure a competitive advantage through transparency while simultaneously meeting strict regulatory requirements.
CertiTrust® Case Studies

Case Study: VARTA® (Clarios)
Clarios faced the challenge of seamlessly tracking the product journey to market. There was a lack of transparency and traceability in the supply chain, coupled with no direct contact to end customers. Here, every battery receives a digital identity through a unique QR code. These codes are aggregated up to the pallet level and linked with supply chain data. This creates a solution that unites traceability and customer interaction.

Case Study: DuPont – Water Filters
Gray market products and counterfeits are increasingly circulating on the market, and a communication channel to professional installers is missing. With CertiTrust, the water filters receive a digital identity: Every filter is equipped with a secure QR code on the product label.
Via the “DuPont Home Water” app, customers and installers can verify the authenticity of the products, access detailed information, participate in loyalty programs, and contact the brand directly. Simultaneously, the products are linked with supply chain data, creating full transparency and traceability while securing against counterfeiting.

Case Study: Akzo Nobel – Paints
Akzo Nobel aims to offer its customers an easy way to verify the authenticity of products. At the same time, professional users lack quick access to important product information they need in their daily work. Here, the paint cans receive a digital identity: Unique, counterfeit-proof QR codes are applied directly to the packaging.
By scanning with a smartphone, users can confirm authenticity and are directed to individual product pages that are available in multiple languages. There, they can find data sheets, application instructions, safety information, and example images for use.
What are the Costs for CertiTrust®?
With CertiTrust®, manufacturers receive a transparent and flexible pricing model that adapts individually to their needs.
- Price per Label: Costs are based on the number of QR code labels used; attractive volume pricing can be arranged depending on the quantity.
- Flexible Usage: Whether a small pilot series or a worldwide rollout involving millions of products, CertiTrust® scales seamlessly.
- All-in Functionality: All necessary functions such as authentication, traceability, and data integration are included as standard.
Companies get exactly what they truly need and simultaneously benefit from a reliable, scalable, and economically sensible model that is suitable for both niche products and large-scale production runs.

How Secure is the QR Code?
Security and Robustness of the QR Code
The QR code, in combination with the CDP system, offers particularly high security because it implements a two-factor authentication. Firstly, the externally visible QR code applied must meet the intended specifications. Secondly, the underlying CDP must be checked, which must be scannable without error. This significantly increases protection compared to RFID or holograms. RFID solutions require additional readers, which increases costs and complexity. A QR code, however, can be scanned easily and reliably with any standard smartphone—a decisive advantage for practical usability. The QR code is also superior in terms of cost: while RFID labels quickly cost several tens of cents per unit, the printing of QR codes remains significantly cheaper.
Adhesion and Resistance
The labels are designed to adhere reliably to various surfaces. Due to our experience across different industries, we can select the appropriate adhesive for every application and provide free samples for testing upon request. To maximize protection against external influences, the labels are produced using the subsurface printing method or are additionally provided with a laminate. This means they are not only optimally protected against scratches but are also resistant to UV radiation, moisture, and chemicals. This ensures the readability of the code over long periods, even with intensive use or demanding environmental conditions.

Trust & Security
With CertiTrust®, security and data protection are paramount. All data is hosted by ScanTrust in Europe in compliance with ISO 27001 and is thus subject to the highest standards of information security.
The solution is, of course, GDPR compliant and reliably protects customer data. The QR codes used are counterfeit-proof and tamper-resistant, ensuring that manufacturers and end customers can verify the authenticity of a product at any time.

Prerequisites for Starting
To begin with our solution, we primarily require a data foundation. If the relevant information is already available, migration into the Scantrust system can easily be done via interfaces or CSV files. In this case, the implementation can be realized within a few weeks.
Since this is a living system, starting even with a small foundation makes sense. This can be continuously expanded and adapted to specific requirements over time. For a smooth rollout and to clarify individual requirements, we recommend personal contact.
In a non-binding exchange or workshop, we can jointly assess which options are best suited for your company and how the solution can be implemented most efficiently.
